Abstract

Deidre Smith, a law student at the University of Maine law school, last month won a national award for an article on the legal problems of the deaf. Entitled "Confronting Silence," the article won honors from SCRIBES, the American Society for Writers on Legal Subjects, as the best in the nation. Smith said the article resulted from hands-on work with deaf defendents in Philadelphia.
