Abstract

The University of Southern Maine's fund-raising drive for the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education has finished nearly a year ahead of schedule, and has raised $1.5 million for the center. The center will open October 16 in a wing of the university's Portland campus library, and will house more than 20,000 maps, globes, atlases and related articles donated to the school over the last decade. Peggy and Harry L. Osher and Eleanor Smith are the two major donors to the university's collection. Details.
