Abstract

Sharalynn Ellis, 31, of Farmingdale, who underwent a double lung transplant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 1992, asked to have the ventilator which helped her breath turned off. Ellis, who suffered from cystic fibrosis, asked to die when it became clear that her body would not accept the transplanted lungs and that she might have to be hooked up to the ventilator for life.
