Abstract

The Legislature's Banking and Insurance Committee hopes to restore health insurance to participants in the Maine Health Program and the Maine High Risk Insurance Organization, both of which are slated for elimination under Governor John R. McKernan's proposed budget. The committee's proposals would increase the size of the programs to nearly 5,000 participants, increasing state costs from $4 million to $9.1 million and bringing in more than $14.8 million in federal funds.
