Abstract

The Maine Department of Marine Resources will lose its last three marine biologists under the McKernan administration's state budget proposals. The loss of the positions would leave Maine unable to monitor the cleanliness of shellfish harvesting areas and could result in the state losing certification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which allows Maine seafood to be marketed in other states.
