Abstract

Article about the success the Maine Audubon Society has had in protecting the endangered piping plover, a tiny sand-colored bird, that nests on the state's beaches. In 1981, there were only seven known pair of the birds. This year, 29 pair are known to have fledged 67 chicks so far. Details.
