Abstract

"News" piece on a $1.7 million Department of Public Safety budget cut proposed by the King administration, which is hoping the U.S. Congress will approve $38 billion for homeland security next year, including $3.5 million in federal help for states. In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, 80 extra Maine state troopers put a $35,000 dent in the state police overtime budget.
