Abstract
"News" piece on a bill to be debated by the Legislature's transportation committee that would add two new license plate designs to the choices currently offered to Maine's drivers. If the bill becomes law, lobsters and bears will be new plate options in 2003 for owners of Maine's 1.4 million registered vehicles. The Sportsman's Alliance of Maine (SAM) may bypass the new bill and attempt to get its whitetailed deer and brook trout designs approved by other means, according to George Smith, SAM's executive director. SAM plans to offer a plan to use the plates to fund a shortfall in the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Smith said.
