Abstract
Portland residents Norm and Althea Green's scrapbook, "The Origins of the Street Names of the City of Portland," includes 50 illustrated newspaper clippings relating to the origins of the names of Portland streets. The articles were published in the summer of 1947 in the Portland Press Herald. For the remaining 800 streets in Portland at that time, the Greens researched the origins of the street names through a variety of sources and present them alphabetically in narrative form. Included are Addendas for accepted streets in 1996 and 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.
In 1998, the authors were awarded a proclamation by the City of Portland for their outstanding contribution to the documentation of Portland's history. A copy of the Proclamation is included.
