The Casco Bay Weekly, a free and independent newsweekly, ran from 1988 to 2004. As the editors wrote in the premier issue, “the idea for Casco Bay Weekly evolved from our attachment to Portland. We like it here.” And readers liked their vision, rushing to pick up their copies every Thursday. They read about the issues facing their city in pieces that were informative, in-depth, and often flavored with humor and irreverence.
The 1988-1992 issues of the paper are indexed in the Maine News Index card file in the Portland Room, while later issues (November 25, 1992 through November 21, 2002) are indexed on the Maine News Index online.
The print issues have been microfilmed for preservation purposes and the originals will be stored in archival boxes in the library’s off-site storage facility.
