The Dissident
The Dissident issued from the cultural space vitalized by The Maine Progressive (1986 - 1995), which, in turn, was a direct descendant of The Maine Statewide Newsletter (1980 - 1986). All served as vital cultural creative energy generators, collecting and reflecting a progressive activist community dedicated to changing Maine. In their own words:
"The Dissident is presented in the spirit of those dissidents, living and dead, whose refusal to accept established political, religious and social systems has inspired reform, revolution or peaceful change over the course of history, as well as in our own times."
