Abstract

Brief article addressing the dearth of hair salons in Maine prepared to care for the hair of African-born and other Black women, and noting the second annual Hair Care Fair hosted by the Black Student Union of the University of Maine on March 3, 2019. Discusses the cultural significance of hair care and braiding in African communities as well as the practical benefits of braids.
