Abstract

Article describing The Third Place, an "organizational collaborative and coworking space" for the Maine BIPOC community founded by Adilah S. Muhammad in 2017. Describes how the organization began as a coworking space catering to the needs of BIPOC entrepreneurs and independent social service providers, but has grown into a professional and social networking hub striving to connect and support Mainers of color. Discusses the organization's Black Excellence Awards, presented in July 2022 to outstanding Black professionals and leaders in Maine. Discusses how creating a supportive community for professionals of color helps make Maine an attractive place for those professionals to live and do business.
