Abstract

A reflection on the importance of asylum seekers and other immigrants to the economic and social growth of Maine, in response to claims by the Wall Street Journal and others that Portland is being overwhelmed by newcomers. Offers comments from Portland Mayor Ethan K. Strimling, Rwandese Community Association of Maine president Leopold Ndayisabye and others arguing that Maine benefits from newcomers and could do more to help them integrate into the workforce.
