Abstract

Two organizations that help asylum seekers, the Congolese Association of Maine (COCOMaine) and Hope Acts, are hoping to create a central office that could coordinate master calendar hearings. A master calendar hearing is an asylum seeker's first hearing before a judge and it is critical that asylum seekers attend their scheduled hearing, whether in Boston (the nearest court to Maine) or remotely via WebEx. Because of language and technology barriers, many asylum seekers need assistance in order to access their hearing.
