Abstract
Profile of Jerry Edwards, also known as Genius Black, a Portland-based musician, producer, artist, and activist. Edwards discusses his love for Maine and Portland, and how he aims to support and enrich Maine's Black community through his work. Describes his past and current projects such as cofounding Black Owned Maine (BOM), an online directory of primarily Black-owned businesses in the state; a planned podcast called "Maine's Black Future," which would explore the lives of Black Mainers from history and the present; and Gem City, an "arts collective and music platform" launched during the coronavirus pandemic. Also mentions Edwards' personal campaign to coin "Gem City" as Portland's official nickname.
