Abstract

A profile of Angela Okafor, lawyer, entrepreneur, and now candidate for Bangor City Council. Relates Okafor's journey to Maine from her native Nigeria and describes the challenges she faced as a New Mainer in the Bangor area. Discusses how her drive to form a more immigrant-friendly community led Okafor to open an international food market and hair braiding salon as well as a law practice specializing in immigration. Emphasizes the social and economic benefits of community inclusivity which Okafor hopes to promote as a City Council member.
