Abstract

Brief summary of the annual Positive Youth Development Institute's conference which was held in Portland. PYDI highlights the importance of out-of-school programming for children's development. Conference attendees learned how such programs can help fight systemic inequity in traditional academic settings and provide opportunities for refugee and immigrant youth to thrive, although presenters also noted that there are barriers to participation, including financial and cultural. Attendees also learned about the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act which supports unhoused children.
