An essay written in reaction to the killing of Congolese refugee Patrick Lyoya by a police officer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The author discusses his feelings about ongoing police violence against people of color in the United States. He notes the pain of immigrant families seeking safety in America only to find they are endangered by the color of their skin.
