Abstract
Review of a concert held at SPACE Gallery in Portland on April 7 by the band QWANQWA. The quintet was founded by violinist Kaethe Hostetter and she describes their sound as a fusion of jazz, experimental sounds, and traditional Ethiopian melodies. The musicians play traditional Ethiopian instruments and the vocalist, Selamnesh Zemene performs in Amharic, the predominant language of Ethiopia.
