Abstract

Swahili translation. Brief profile of Pious Ali, Portland City Councilman-at-large and a Policy Associate at the Muskie School of Public Service. Mr. Ali arrived in New York from Ghana in 2000,and made his way to Maine a few years later. He explains that many African immigrants have never experienced a functioning government and he stresses the importance of civic participation.
