Abstract
Jason Smith, a production assistant with WGME-TV's "I-Team," tried to take a second-grade boy out of Cumberland's Mabel I. Wilson elementary school on October 10, saying he was sent by the boy's parents. The story was reported in the November 9 issue of the Falmouth Forecaster, but the Portland Press Herald didn't run a story. Both the Press Herald and WGME are owned by Guy Gannett Communications. WGME has come under fire before for its journalistic techniques, and some observers think the most recent incident raised ethical questions. Details.
