Abstract

The Maine College of Art's Porteous building is scheduled to open January 16, and many are touting it as the savior of Portland's downtown. The $10.8-million renovation of the building is a big thing for MECA, for Congress Street merchants and for City Hall and its various agencies, which are hoping it will become the cornerstone of the city's proposed arts district.
