Profile of The Public Theatre of Lewiston. The 300-seat Equity house, with a paid staff of five and an annual budget of $250,000, is forging a reputation as one of the region's top theaters. Chris Schario and Janet Mitchko, husband and wife and co-artistic directors, arrived in Lewiston from New York City two years ago, and wanted to build on founding director George Vafiadis' goal of producing high-quality theater that would draw a crowd.
