Abstract

"Soley Watch" piece on the laundromat landlord Joe Soley installed in his building at 10 Exchange Street in Portland. Soley didn't bother getting permits for the laundromat, and the city only heard about it after receiving complaints about water leaking into basement storage spaces. Portland building inspector Sam Hoffses threatened to close Soley's Seamen's Club on February 22 because of a huge garbage pile in the courtyard behind the restaurant, but Soley had the pile removed just before a deadline to do so.
