Abstract
"City" piece on a trip to Maine Yankee by a fourth-grade class from Longfellow Elementary School in Portland. Teacher Richard Johnson allowed his students to learn about nuclear power from Maine Yankee officials, and let Maine Yankee pay for the trip, but didn't teach the children about any of the potential drawbacks of nuclear power. Sue Nixon of Portland, a parent, objected to the field trip, and when she requested that an alternative point of view be presented to the children was told she was being extreme. Portland school superintendent Mary Jane McCalmon wrote Nixon and told her a balanced view was presented. Details.
