Abstract
Scott Kinsey purchased Granny Killam's Industrial Drinkhouse of Portland from Bill Beasley, the club's founder, in July 1995, and recently announced the club's closing. Portland's population is aging, and music clubs must compete with bars, restaurants, VCRs and each other for patrons. Zootz is due for a liquor license renewal next month, which could be problematic given the club's relationship with elderly neighbors. Morganfield's has closed and T-Birds is only open once each week, leaving the city's music scene in poor condition. Details, related articles on Stone Coast Brewing Company in Portland and the local radio scene.
