Abstract

A March 18 report to a task force dealing with gang activity in Portland said membership in gangs has grown from 20 in January 1994 to 90 in January 1997. The figures in the report are different from other estimates given in recent years. Portland Police Deputy Chief Mark Dion said calculating a census of gang membership is difficult. Details.
