Abstract
"Edge" piece on changes in Portland's club scene. Valerie Levy, 29, of Scarborough, and sisters Krista Willey, 29, and Laurie Willey, 27, are starting Asylum in the former Morganfield's building on Center Street. The Pavilion has made over $500,000 in additions and improvements since opening two years ago, and in January started booking national music acts. The new owners of Odyssey 2000 on Forest Avenue are preparing to renovate the space and reopen it as Metropolis. Millennium, a gay-themed hall, will open this month in the former Hedgehog Brewpub on India Street. Some observers wonder if Portland will be able to sustain the new clubs and the existing ones.
