Abstract
Maine's Bureau of Medical Services has received around 80 complaints against home health care agencies so far in 1997, up from just 26 reports in 1992. There were 59 home health care agencies in the state in 1991, compared to 91 today. Some Mainers who depend on home health care report their workers never showed up, while other grievances include physical, sexual and verbal abuse. The federal government and the state are trying to take care of the problems associated with home health care agencies. Details; information on some of the Portland-area home care companies cited by the state for alleged misconduct, including Interim Healthcare Services, Olsten Health Services, Assisted Home Care, Healthsouth, Admiral Home Care Services and Visiting Nurses Association..
