Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on U.S. senator Olympia Snowe, who, on October 17, wrote U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Carol Browner about the EPA's delaying a study on mercury poisoning. Snowe in 1996 joined 11 of her colleagues in urging the EPA to delay a study dealing with mercury contamination in seafood. With a piece on Jonathan Carter and his acceptance of a $150,000 anonymous donation. Carter this year proposed legislation that would have banned private corporations from donating more than $500 to a referendum campaign.
