Abstract
"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on Daniel Callahan Sr., 82, of Mechanic Falls, vice chairman of the Maine Turnpike Authority. Callahan, a former state legislator, made homophobic comments at the MTA's annual employee recognition dinner in Portland, and later offered to resign from the authority. MTA chairman Julian Coles rejected the offer. Callahan said a medical condition caused him to make the remarks, leaving some observers to question whether he is fit to remain on the MTA's board.
