Abstract
The Internet became easily accessible to the American public in the late 1980s, but Maine did not have an Internet provider until April 1994. There are now around 50 Internet service providers in the state, and some 400 software manufacturers. Casco Bay Weekly launched its electronic version in March 1995, making it the first alternative newspaper in the nation with its own website. Almost half of Maine residents own a personal computer, and nearly half of those computer owners are linked to the Internet. Details.
