Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices and its inquiries into fundraising during former state representative Annette Hoglund's unsuccessful 1996 campaign. Hoglund, a Dmemocrat from Portland, reported her contributions totaled less than $67,000, when the actual amount was more than $1 million. With a piece on the Free Press, the student newspaper at the University of Southern Maine, and its reporting on the February 10 referendum on gay rights.
