Abstract

"Edge" piece on Shane Garcia, 28, who has a record label and runs two skateboarding stores in Maine. Shane's Groove, on India Street, has given Portland's skateboarders a clubhouse of sorts. Garcia has been responsible for convincing Old Orchard Beach to build a skating park for kids and has helped Portland with plans for its own park, to be built on Marginal Way. The Members of the Portland Coalition for Skateboarding Advocacy, which he started, are also his customers, employees, and friends.
