Abstract
The increase of kayakers on Casco Bay poses a threat to the ecosystems of the islands, while at the same time sensitizing boaters to the fragility and value of nature. Part of the increase is due to the cleaning up of the waters in the last decade, and today about 6,000 recreational boaters use the bay, along with swimmers and kayakers. The Friends of Casco Bay publish an "Action Guide for Boaters," which details how to boat in an environmentally friendly manner.
