Abstract

The new Portland Public Market is being erected on the site of the old Plaza Hotel where Will Jackson started Punk Night in the Downtown Lounge in January 1980. Jackson introduced Portland to cutting-edge rock music, bringing in bands like Robin Lane and the Chartbusters, the Stains, and Bebe and the B-sides, with local singer Bebe Buell, the mother of actress Liv Tyler.
