Abstract
According to a report released last year, Portland's port employed 3,700 people, generated $314 million in business and contributed $9 million in tax revenues into state and city coffers. Space has become a problem in the port, and one solution would be to purchase a 40-acre parcel from Guilford Transportation, which because of the price could only be done by the city. The lack of action on easing the space crunch has some believing that the port needs a port authority to coordinate harbor and waterfront planning activity. Details.
