Abstract

"Politics & Other Mistakes" piece critical of the Maine Turnpike Authority's allegedly arrogant handing of the recent announcement of toll increases of about 25 percent needed for widening the turnpike. Writer Al Diamon pooh poohs recent talk about abolishing the turnpike authority, arguing that do so would require the state to pick up the authority's $160 million bonded indebtedness, which would be added to the state's debt and hurt its bond rating.
