Abstract

"City" piece on Portland's new smoking ordinance that took effect Dec. 5. Many of the city's restaurant owners expected their businesses to suffer as a result, but six weeks into the ban, most say they have been pleasantly surprised. Others, including Paul Severino, owner of the Sportsman's Bar & Grill, and Jim Gilbert, owner of Gilbert's Chowder House, say they cannot possibly comply and hope to stay in business.
