Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on Maine Arts, producers of New Year's Portland and the Maine Festival. Ticket sales for both events have been falling, but Nick Bloom, 28, the organization's director, is optimistic. Bloom replaced longtime director Burl Hash, whose abrupt termination caused some veteran volunteers to quit. Maine Arts was founded in 1976 as the Maine Festival of the Arts, the brainchild of Marshall Dodge, the late Maine humorist. With a brief history of how the organization evolved and a look its current director's future survival strategy.
