Abstract

"Talk" piece with Barbara Smith of Portland, who teaches home economics at Biddeford Middle School. Smith says the days of June Cleaver are over and instructors like her are frontline revolutionaries helping kids navigate the minefields of life. Her students are learning how to cope with the nontraditional family, including same-gender parents, and it frightens the Christian Coalition and some parents because they think it might be values education.
