Abstract

"Newsreal" piece on the recent Portland City Council vote to give Nichols Portland, a manufacturer of precision auto parts, a $3.9 million tax break over 20 years to help fund a $6.9 million plant expansion. Nichols employs 450 people in Portland, pays its labor force an average of $11.45 per hour and is, according to the federal Environmental Protection Agency, the fourth largest polluter in Cumberland County.
