Abstract
"City" piece on Waynflete School's plans for improvement and expansion in Portland's historic West End. The private school wants to build a 9,925-square-foot addition to the Emery House, and join the Ruth Cook Hyde and Morrill houses with a three-story connector. Neighbors worry the construction could cause the area to lose some of its historic charm, said Martha Deprez, executive director of Greater Portland Landmarks. But Waynflete's proposals must first be reviewed by the city's Historic Preservation Committee and by the Portland Planning Board.
