Abstract
"Cover Story" interview with LeeAnne, who has terminal cancer and does not wish to publish her full name. LeeAnne grew up in South Portland and has worked at Scarborough Downs for many years. In 1987 she was diagnosed with skin cancer. Doctors successfully removed that melanoma, but in December 1997, the illness returned. She was diagnosed with metastasized or malignant melanoma and was given a year to live. After watching her parents, who both died of cancer, suffer through courses of chemotherapy, LeeAnne has rejected surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and a new experimental treatment, prefering to die with dignity. She is not yet in any pain, but counts each month as a blessing. She wonders now if she might yet make it to the year 2000.
