Abstract

"City" piece on a May 21 announcement by David Morgan, owner of the Casco Bay Weekly (CBW), that his ex-wife, Lael Morgan, will be the paper's new managing editor, starting in mid-June. The announcement immediately prompted the resignation of CBW columnist Sarah Goodyear. CBW editor Laura Conaway, who will now report to Lael Morgan, said she fears the editorial department is about to experience an erosion of its independence and integrity. Lael Morgan retired recently as a journalist professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Prior to teaching, she worked as a reporter and photographer at the Los Angeles Times and other papers, and is the author of several books.
