Abstract
"So Noted" piece urging Portland's voters to support a petition drive to recall Mayor Tom Kane and city councilors Jim Cloutier and Nathan Smith for their May 27 vote, which would have taken the May 4 election victory from incumbent-at-large councilor Philip J. Dawson and given it to his challenger, Ethan K. Strimling. Strimling lost the election but later claimed victory based on contested ballots. He then withdrew in response to a public outcry. Two other councilors who voted to give the election to Strimling, Karen Geraghty and Charlie Harlow, are immune from recall: Geraghty has less than a year remaining on her term and Harlow lost the May 4 election. To force a recall vote, 3,000 signatures are needed. With petition locations and times when petitions will be available for signing.
