Abstract
The Greater Portland area has two drive-in theaters, Pride's Corner in Westbrook and the Saco Drive-In on Route 1. The drive-in theater was invented in Camden, N.J., on June 6, 1933, and reached its peak in 1958 when there were 4,063 screens nationwide. Maine currently has five drive-ins, plus another in Houlton being used by the Military Street Baptist Church for Sunday services, and a recent night at Pride's Corner showed that the theaters are enjoying a new level of popularity.
