Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece criticizing the Maine Audubon Society and the Natural Resources Council of Maine for not appearing at a Board of Environmental Protection hearing on July 28 to oppose the Maine Turnpike Authority's plan to widen the southern end of the Maine Turnpike. Both conservation organizations actively opposed a similar plan that was rejected by Maine voters in 1991 because it would have destroyed 23 acres of wetlands. The 1999 version will destroy 30 acres of wetland.
