Abstract
"City" piece on Portland School Committee member Erik Richard who says the Boy Scouts of America shouldn't be allowed to use the city's school facilities because the organization discriminates against gays, which is a violation of the Portland school system's antidiscrimination policy. A Portland schools' facilities report indicates the scouts currently rent space at the Adams, Hall, Jack, Lyseth and Presumpscot schools. Gary Wood, the city's attorney, said schools are not usually defined as "publicly accessible" and might have "more leeway" than the city when choosing renters. But Richard said he intended to present his plans to the full School Committee.
